Nicaraguan Intellectual Property Office authorizes documents without legalization for Trademark Matters.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic that is affecting the entire world, the authorities of the Intellectual Property Office in Nicaragua issued on May 5th, 2020, Public Note No. 02-2020; allowing an exemption from the requirement of authentications and signature legalizations (including the Apostille) for all documents issued abroad that are necessary for the procedures related to trademarks, trade names and advertising signs.

The public Note does not have a defined validity term; therefore, it will continue to be on effect until reversed by the same authority.

The Intellectual Property Office is the first governmental institution to take this measure, however, we hope the authorities will adapt this measure in favor of users in other institutions as well.

We are aware of the current challenges many of our clients, correspondents and friends abroad are facing; therefore, we hope that this measure means a relief in the process of issuing and authorizing documents to be used in the Republic of Nicaragua.

We will keep you informed as always of any further action that the authority may take regarding this matter.
