EL SALVADOR – National Assembly approves new law to benefit repatriated people in El Salvador

In order to provide security to Salvadoran migrants who have lived in the United States and have returned to the country, the National Assembly of El Salvador approved the Law of Incentives for Repatriated Persons, which guarantees the legal security of their assets abroad and when they wish to bring them back to the country.

This law will be in force for one year, as from its publication in the Official Gazette and its purpose is to encourage the return of Salvadorans. According to the law, financial institutions must provide their services to Salvadoran nationals who wish to open bank accounts or who need to use any other financial service.

During the first year, returnees may import one household item with a maximum value of USD 70,000 and up to two vehicles.
