Claribel Medina de León
Attorney, partner, and Notary Public at the Tegucigalpa office of CENTRAL LAW in Honduras. Completed her studies with diplomas in Banking and Taxes and completed courses in arbitration at the Tegucigalpa Chamber of Commerce.
Medina has more than 20 years of experience in Administrative Law, Licensing, Energy, and Contracts. She has been recognized by Legal 500 and by IFLR Energy & Infrastructure as a leader in intellectual property and energy-infrastructure, respectively, and by Women in Business Law (Euromoney Legal Media Group) as one of the best lawyers in tax law in Latin America.
Her experience in the legal-administrative sector translates particularly well to the areas of licenses and intellectual property, health certifications for different products, banking law, corporate law, labor law, immigration, and the environment and, in general, to all of the licensing procedures managed by the Government of Honduras. Additionally, she has participated in arbitration and litigation involving multinational companies in civil and commercial areas. She has also completed the recognition procedures for foreign companies to gain accreditation with entities in the country.
In terms of her environmental licensing practice, Medina has represented different projects such as hydroelectric plants, residential developments, industrial zones, poultry farms, and others. She has performed due diligence for industrial zones and environmental administrative procedures in Honduras for the evaluation of the environmental impact of different companies. She has been a consultant for the information gathering and writing of the Honduras chapter related to environmental regulations in a USAID-CAFTA project. She was recently hired by the Secretariat of Environmental Affairs (SAA-SIECA) to consult regarding environmental licenses for different projects in the country. Medina is continually up-to-date with legislation, trends, and procedures, and leads the firm’s legal team at the Tegucigalpa office.
She is a member of the bar association of Honduras and participates actively in national and international conferences related to the areas of law that she practices.
