The Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) has been awarded as the Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean in the category of 5 to 15 million passengers, according to the prestigious ASQ Airport Service Quality Awards 2024, organized by Airports Council International (ACI World). This award, which is based on surveys conducted directly with passengers, highlights the joint effort of various key actors, including the AERIS manager, the airport community, government authorities and other strategic partners, to improve the user experience and maintain high-quality service standards.
A Recognition of Commitment to Excellence
This award reflects Juan Santamaría Airport’s constant effort to offer world-class service, standing out in fundamental aspects such as efficiency, staff friendliness, comfort and cleanliness. For Ricardo Hernández, executive director of AERIS, this award is a testament to the collaborative work of all those involved in the operation of the airport. “The SJO is the main gateway to Costa Rica and our commitment is to ensure that each passenger’s experience reflects the essence of the Pura Vida experience,” said Hernandez.
Significant Improvements in the Last Year
The Juan Santamaría Airport has implemented a series of key improvements over the last year, which have strengthened its position as a benchmark in the region. Among the main initiatives, a new visual identity stands out, aligned with the values and culture of Costa Rica, which seeks to reflect the warmth and hospitality that characterize the country. In addition, technological advances have been incorporated to optimize operational processes and improve the passenger experience.
Another important aspect is the continuous improvement of its infrastructure and the consolidation of the SJO’s Customer Experience Committee, whose main objective is to guarantee excellence in user service. These actions reinforce the airport’s commitment to quality, always seeking to exceed the expectations of travelers.
The Relevance of the ASQ Awards
The ASQ Awards are considered the leading global benchmark in measuring the airport experience. Through real-time surveys, different aspects of service quality are evaluated, such as ease of processes, staff friendliness, cleanliness, services, comfort and operational efficiency. In its 2024 edition, the program reached a record of nearly 700,000 surveys completed globally, with more than half of the world’s travelers transiting through airports that are part of the ASQ program. Justin Erbacci, CEO of ACI World, highlighted the importance of these awards in a global context where passenger expectations are increasingly high: “The ASQ 2024 awards recognize those airports that create memorable and seamless experiences, completely transforming the passenger journey and helping to shape the future of air travel.”
The Future of Juan Santamaría Airport
With this recognition, Juan Santamaría International Airport continues to consolidate itself as one of the main airports in the region, reaffirming its commitment to excellence in every detail of the airport experience. From its new image to advances in infrastructure and technology, the SJO is positioned as an example to follow, not only for its quality of service, but also for its constant innovation and effort to adapt to the new demands of the sector. In summary, this recognition not only highlights the quality of service at Juan Santamaría Airport, but also the continuous effort of all its collaborators and key players, who work together to offer a world-class experience to travelers passing through the main gateway to Costa Rica.
