{"id":16061,"date":"2025-05-29T18:02:04","date_gmt":"2025-05-29T18:02:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central-law.com\/?p=16061"},"modified":"2025-05-29T18:02:04","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T18:02:04","slug":"central-america-advances-telecommunications-amid-structural-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central-law.com\/en\/central-america-advances-telecommunications-amid-structural-challenges\/","title":{"rendered":"Central America Advances Telecommunications Amid Structural Challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latin America is expected to reach a total of <\/span><b>425 million 5G connections by 2030<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, representing a <\/span><b>55% increase from 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to the <\/span><b>GSMA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the region has experienced <\/span><b>significant advances in the telecommunications sector during 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with a focus on expanding connectivity and adopting emerging technologies such as <\/span><b>5G<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, challenges persist related to <\/span><b>infrastructure, regulation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>equitable access<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to digital services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Global Telecom Outlook 2024\u20132028<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> report by <\/span><b>PwC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> indicates that revenue from fixed and mobile services in the region <\/span><b>increased by 4.3% in 2023<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reaching <\/span><b>$1.14 trillion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and this trend is expected to continue with a <\/span><b>compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.9%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through 2028, although this is below the projected inflation rate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regionally, <\/span><b>Latin America is projected to reach 425 million 5G connections by 2030<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reflecting a <\/span><b>55% growth from 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to estimates by the <\/span><b>GSM Association (GSMA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Panama, the <\/span><b>National Authority of Public Services (ASEP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> presented a comprehensive analysis of the country\u2019s telecommunications sector during <\/span><b>Conecta Latam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an event that brought together leaders from telecom operators, regulators, analysts, government officials, and digital transformation providers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This presentation contextualized the <\/span><b>sector\u2019s challenges and opportunities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as the need to <\/span><b>connect unserved communities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>reduce the digital divide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014a goal that requires the <\/span><b>synergy of all stakeholders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> involved in the ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, the ASEP stressed the importance of <\/span><b>regulatory updates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>process optimization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cto promote the efficient use of networks, improve infrastructure, and ensure effective competition between large and small concessionaire companies, with the goal of providing customers and users with better service quality and continuity,\u201d according to a statement released via its digital platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Central America, <\/span><b>closing the uneven progress in infrastructure development is critical<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Moreover, the region must address issues related to <\/span><b>regulatory frameworks and security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A report by <\/span><b>EY<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emphasizes that telecommunications companies must adopt a <\/span><b>holistic risk perspective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including <\/span><b>technological transformation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>disruption to the value chain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to remain resilient in a rapidly evolving environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The same PwC report highlights that <\/span><b>structural change will drive increased demand for connectivity and communication services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the coming years, while the telecommunications industry itself is undergoing a transformation that is opening <\/span><b>new opportunities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report identifies <\/span><b>strategic investment in artificial intelligence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>fixed connectivity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>B2B services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as key factors; as well as <\/span><b>collaboration with investors and regulators<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to optimize the market and reliance on <\/span><b>acquisitions and alliances<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to achieve scale.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Latin America is expected to reach a total of 425 million 5G connections by 2030, representing a 55% increase from 2024, according to the GSMA.
