This date, promoted by the organization <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncaged Campaigns<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since 1998, strategically coincides with Human Rights Day, emphasizing that dignity and responsible care should extend beyond human boundaries to encompass all species.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Animal rights emerge as an ethical and practical necessity in a society striving to be more just. It requires a commitment to safeguard animal welfare, prohibit mistreatment, and ensure adequate living conditions. This aligns with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One Health<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concept, which advocates for the well-being of people, animals, and a healthy environment\u2014an approach promoted by MSD Animal Health in Central America, the Caribbean, and Ecuador (CENCA EC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnimals are an integral part of our ecosystems and our lives. Protecting them means protecting our own existence, as ethical treatment toward them benefits our health, our planet, and even our economy,\u201d explained Gustavo Moraes, General Manager of MSD Animal Health in Central America, the Caribbean, and Ecuador (CENCA EC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While significant progress has been made in recent decades\u2014such as the enactment of laws against cruelty and the recognition of animals as rights-bearing entities in several countries\u2014there is still a long road ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), animal welfare is intrinsically linked to public health and environmental sustainability. This underscores the importance of addressing the issue from both an ethical perspective and as a shared responsibility that directly impacts the planet&#8217;s balance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MSD Animal Health specialists emphasize that change begins with individual actions that lead to global impacts. Some of the most effective ways to promote animal rights include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Encouraging responsible pet adoption<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Opting to adopt and provide homes for animals in need rather than purchasing them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Educating younger generations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Instilling values of respect and empathy toward animals from an early age.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reducing the ecological footprint<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Adopting habits that minimize environmental impact, such as responsible consumption and waste reduction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gustavo Moraes, General Manager of MSD Animal Health in Central America, the Caribbean, and Ecuador (CENCA EC), emphasizes that International Animal Rights Day provides an opportunity to evaluate humanity&#8217;s relationship with the living beings that share our planet.
