{"id":15126,"date":"2024-08-11T00:27:51","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T00:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/central-law.com\/?p=15126"},"modified":"2024-08-11T00:27:51","modified_gmt":"2024-08-11T00:27:51","slug":"costa-rica-requests-support-from-japan-and-vietnam-to-join-the-trans-pacific-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/central-law.com\/en\/costa-rica-requests-support-from-japan-and-vietnam-to-join-the-trans-pacific-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"Costa Rica Requests Support from Japan and Vietnam to Join the Trans-Pacific Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a tour of Asia, Costa Rica announced that it aims to advance its application to join the <\/span><b>Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to a statement from the Central American country\u2019s government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Japan, <\/span><b>Costa Rican Vice President Stephan Brunner<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sought the Asian nation\u2019s backing for Costa Rica\u2019s accession to the agreement, emphasizing that joining the pact would grant Costa Rica access to significant markets such as Japan\u2014 the world\u2019s fourth-largest economy\u2014 and provide Tokyo with a new Central American trading partner with shared values and principles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his visit to Vietnam, <\/span><b>Foreign Trade Minister Manuel Tovar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> met with his counterpart Nguy\u1ec5n H\u1ed3ng Di\u00ean to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tovar stated that Costa Rica views the CPTPP as the <\/span><b>&#8220;gold standard&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of global trade agreements, advocating for a more open, inclusive, progressive, sustainable, and resilient trade framework. Therefore, Costa Rica\u2019s request to join the agreement represents a natural evolution and strategic advancement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CPTPP includes Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam, making it one of the largest free trade areas in the world. <\/span><b>Once the United Kingdom becomes a full member of the treaty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it will encompass 589 million consumers and approximately 15% of global GDP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We are at a pivotal moment in Costa Rica\u2019s trade agenda, as we strengthen our ties with Vietnam and seek to join the CPTPP,&#8221; said Tovar, who presented a letter officially recognizing Vietnam as a market economy, a step towards enhancing trade relations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This partnership and agreement will not only solidify our presence in the Asia-Pacific region but also align us with some of the world\u2019s most dynamic economies.
